The two video portraits are of my Mother and Father. I recorded them alone in separate rooms and were asked to pose into the camera for twenty minutes. The installation then brings this separation together evoking a relationship with my parents as they now not only gazing into the camera but at one another; still alone. Just as important as the suggested relationship of the two videos is the void between them. The viewer is invited into the space that I occupy between them, the space of my birth. To be gazed at by my parents as they have looked at me. Ultimately as time passes they grow tired, strain sets in, and a longing for the end is seen. The same that will happen in the end of their life; a forced smile to comfort me or a look of defeat as they pass away.
